Robert Polgar

About me

Robert Polgar is an academic musician, saxophone professor, composer, and arranger. He completed his studies at the Music Academy in Zagreb, majoring in saxophone, and during and after his studies, he collaborated with orchestras such as the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Croatian Army Orchestra, the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the HRT Big Band, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, ZKM, the Komedija Theatre, and many other ensembles.

After his studies, although his focus was on classical music, he became more active in jazz and collaborated with many prominent jazz artists, both from the region (Boško Petrović, Moljenko Prohaska, Gabri Novak, Zdenka Kovačiček, Duško Gojković, Matija Dedić, etc.) and internationally (Bob Minzer, Barbara Dennerlein, John Thomas, Don Menza, Bobby Shue, John Riley, and others).

As a founder, conductor, or musician, he participated in the Čakovec Big Band and the Belić Big Band, and for over twenty years, he has been leading the Samobor Big Band. He also leads the “Go-Go Swing Orchestra,” which features some of the most famous Croatian actors, such as Goran Navojc, Zrinka Cvitešić, Igor Mešin, Renata Sabljak, Ervin Baučić, Mile Elegović, Bojana Gregurić, Anja and Filip Šovagović.

He is also active in the pop music scene, having collaborated with numerous artists such as Josipa Lisac, Prljavo Kazalište, Nina Badrić, Soulfingers, Oliver Dragojević, Gibonni, and others. Additionally, he is successful in his pedagogical work and is currently employed at the Vatroslav Lisinski Music School in Zagreb.
